Starting her musical career at a young age,
Olasunkanmi Rehanat Alonge known for her stage name ‘SUNKANMI’ is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and entertainer. Sunkanmi basked into the musical industry in her second year in the university where she’s an Alumni of Olabisi Onabanjo University, she graduated with a Bsc in Geophysics. Sunkanmi rose to limelight in 2015 when she released her song titled single “For body’’, a song which enlisted her for a collaboration with popular Nigerian rapper Olamide baddo.
She recently released her 2020 single ‘Your love’ which currently on massive airplay across top radio stations. Sunkanmi who is known for a quality Afropop style of music goes Afrosoul this time, preaching about love.
In a recent interview with us at Giovanna media, the singer who’s set to turn 34 in June 2021, explained that she met the rapper (Olamide) through a DJ friend of hers many years ago in Lagos. She described him as a dope talent and confessed to learning a lot of things from him. Including song writing skills.
When asked who inspires her in the music industry, and who she wouldn’t mind a collaboration with, she replied”BEYONCE” with immediate alacrity. Seems she’s a big fan of the American musical goddess.
Sunkanmi music is strongly convinced that she was born to do music, and her inspiration comes from God.
The musical artist is really making her mark in the musical and fashion world, as she’s the latest cover of our magazine.
Sunkanmi is currently signed to HIT THE GROUND Running Entertainment records. Her genre of music includes: Pop, Afro Pop and Afro hip pop. Some of the artists she’s collaborated with includes….. Olamide, Lil kesh, CDQ, Tee-ymix, Spells and many more……..
She’s been nominated for several awards such as, The most promising act to watch at the 2015 edition of the Nigerian entertainment Awards. In 2016, she received 3 nominations from Scream All-Youth Awards in the Best New Act” category, in 2016, The Lagos Fashion Awards in the “Fashionable Revelation Artist of the year” and Eloy Awards in the “Upcoming Female Artiste” category, alongside the likes of Niniola, Falana and Aramide and a host of others…..
When asked what fans should expect from her soonest, the multi talented singer replied…..” MY E.P” coming soon in 2021.

Below, is an exclusive interview the music star had with us.
*How would you describe your fashion sense?
My fashion sense is simply dope, I’m always a fashion forward person, I love to explore fashion ideas.
*How long have you been doing music and what type of music do you present to your fans?
I have been in the game for over 5 years now, and my sound is amazingly unique, purely SUNKANMI infused with African sounds and percussions,I call it Afro-fusion or Afro pop.
*Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I can’t really tell,but I hope to be a bigger, better me in the future, God’s willing. I can only get better. Just like the saying goes, “forward ever, backward never.
*Where do you think Nigerian music is now?
Nigerian music is more like a raw gold, waiting to be refined. With a lot of young amazing talents, I think we’re making a huge progress.
*We heard you were in the U.S.A for sometime, how did it put an impact to your music?
Naturally, happenings around the world inspires my music. So whenever I’m in the states, I get really inspired by their music,books and way of life.
*What first got you into music?
The funny part is,I didn’t choose music, music chose me. I’ve been singing and remixing people’s song since I was a kid.
*Who inspired you to do music?
I was born to do music, so my inspiration comes from God and life generally.
*How did you feel when you were called up for your first award in 2015?
I was really speechless at first,it felt like a dream. Then I said to myself “it’s happening in reality”
*What is your creative process like?
It’s always a magical moment. Getting to discover more things and making it come alive.
*Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate with Queen B (Beyonce).
She’s a real gem, she’s has been exceptional and her consistency is something I hope to emulate
*If you could go open a show for any artist, whom would it be?
Definitely Beyonce
*What is one message you would share to your fans?
Follow your dreams and make sure you enjoy the process. PROBLEM NO DEY FINISH.
*What other thing would you be doing now if not for music?
I would definitely be a geophysicist,as that is what I studied in school.
*Where have you performed?
I have performed locally and internationally and I’ve enjoyed every single experience. Looking forward to my upcoming show “VIBE WITH SUNKANMIMUSIC”.
*What is your best song to perform?
“YUR LUV” my latest single.
*Which famous musician do you admire?
I admire “Beyonce”, her carriage,her personality, everything about her.
*What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?
Non that I can remember. I’m a peaceful individual, and luckily for me, I hardly get into trouble
*What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
To always be myself, irrespective of what people think about me.
*If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I wouldn’t change much, I will just preach more on peace and unity.
