Lady Gaga’s style has become embedded into her identity as an artist. In the early days, she stuck out from the streams of cutesy pop princesses with her tiny bodysuits, crazy wigs, sunglasses, and her penchant for platform heels. Beetle wings, halos, pyrotechnic bras: you’ll find this singer wearing it all. And who can forget her infamous meat dress moment?
Whilst it didn’t quite top the meat creation, her epic Schiaparelli gown for President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ inauguration as they were sworn into office. The custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture look designed by Daniel Roseberry comprised of a navy, cashmere fitted jacket offset with a red silk skirt and the gilded dove of peace brooch. “As an American living in Paris, this ensemble is a love letter to the country I miss so dearly and to a performer whose artistry I have so long admired,” Roseberry, the Maison’s creative
director said of Gaga’s look in a statement.
They have become the 46th President and 49th Vice President of the United States, taking the oath of office and beginning their work in the White House in the midst of a global pandemic, and at a time of immense political unrest.
The inauguration was akin to an awards ceremony with performances from pop kweens J-Lo and Lady Gaga. The inauguration took place outside the Capitol in Washington DC, the same place where pro-Trump mobsters carried out the Capitol riots on 6th January. Because of this, and because of the pandemic, the
inauguration will look very different this year. Citizens usually gather in their millions to watch the proceedings in Washington, but the crowd size this year was ‘extremely limited’ – although that didn’t stop us from watching in awe.
On the afternoon before Biden’s inauguration, Lady Gaga shared a photo of herself in Washington D.C.’s Capitol donning a Givenchy coat. “I pray tomorrow will be a day of peace for all Americans,” she wrote. “A day for love, not hatred. A day for acceptance, not fear. A day for dreaming of our future joy as a country. A dream that is non-violent, a dream that provides safety for our souls. Love, from the Capitol 🇺🇸”
