After many days of suspense in the US elections, it’s now official that Joseph Robinette Biden, popularly Known as Joe Biden has emerged winner of the November 2020 polls.
Joe Biden scored a total of 290, despite him needing just 270 electoral college votes to win. Thereby, edging president Trump’s 214 electoral college votes.
Joe Biden who turns 78 at the end of the month will become the oldest president of the United States of America. Ronald Regan was formerly the oldest. Regan served as the 40th president of the US from 1981-1989.he was 69 years,349 days of age when he became president, nearly a month to his 70th birthday.
Reports had it earlier that incumbent president, Donald Trump, had threatened to go to court over what he believed were electoral malpractices perpetuated by the Democrats.
Though, president Trump isn’t totally satisfied with the election results, but that hasn’t prevented Joe Biden from getting congratulatory messages. Celebrities like Miley Cyrus, LeBron James, and Beyoncé already celebrated the president elect, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos also celebrated Biden.
Bezos celebrated Biden and Harris in an Instagram post. He said “their victory signifies that ‘unity, empathy and decency are not characteristics of a bygone era”.
Bill Gates, who has been a vocal critic of Trump’s coronavirus response, said he looks forward to “working with the new administration and leaders on both sides in Congress on getting the surging pandemic under control. Joe Biden took to his Twitter account, after his announcement as president elect on 7 November 2020. Biden said, “America, I’m honoured that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a president for all Americans–whether you voted me or not. I will keep the faith that you’ve placed in me.
Biden, would be the 46th president of the US, and the 16th Democratic president.
